Three things stood out to me the day I was introduced to Mary Kay.
For me, driving a career car was a game changer. Eliminating a car payment, insurance costs, and maintenance added an additional $800+ back to our family budget. Having zero designated territories AND quotas allowed me to build a business from anywhere.
I did have a few reservations before immediately saying yes to Mary Kay:
Selling lipstick and foundation was definitely not something I knew anything about, nor did I have the desire to learn, but Mary Kay offers the tools needed to run a successful business without knowing all the things!
In January 2014, I officially started my Mary Kay business. Working diligently and consistently allowed me to walk away from Corporate America in just a few short months while also moving swiftly up the Mary Kay career path and becoming an Independent Sales Director within five months. Since starting in 2014, I have increased my income, won many awards and gifts, and gained the use of a FREE career car. I have been driving for FREE for 7 years! Mary Kay has truly changed the trajectory of my career and overall life!
Faith
Hebrews 11: - Now, FAITH is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Inspire
Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed., for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Resilient
James 4:10 – Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Empower
James 1:12 – Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
It all started with a dream… For Mary Kay Ash, it was always a mission possible. After experiencing inequality in the workplace, she knew she had to make a change, not only for herself but for all women.
Mary Kay Ash worked for Stanley Home Products in 1939. Frustrated when passed over for a promotion in favor of a man that she trained, Ash retired in 1963 and intended to write a book to assist women in business. This book turned into a business plan for her ideal company, and in the summer of 1963, Mary Kay Ash and her new husband, George Hallenbeck, planned to start Mary Kay Cosmetics. However, one month before Mary Kay and George started Beauty by Mary Kay, as the company was then called, George died of a sudden heart attack. One month after George's death on September 13, 1963, when she was 45 years old with a $5,000 investment from her sons, Ben Rogers, Jr. and Richard Rogers, Ash started Mary Kay Cosmetics.
The company started its original storefront operation, "Beauty By Mary Kay," in Dallas, TX. They had a 500 sqft storefront with nine saleswomen. She copied the same “house party” model used by Stanley, Tupperware, and others. A Mary Kay representative would invite their friends over for free facials, then pitch the products. Profits rolled in, with double‐digit growth every year!
Mary Kay Ash was a very visible, active role model. She was a God‐fearing, hard‐working mother of three who did everything in her power to see other women succeed. She loved mentoring so much that she referred to her saleswomen as her “daughters,” while also ensuring that her company was purposely inclusive, enabling rapid expansion into Australia, South America, Europe, and Asia! Mary Kay Ash was truly a female icon!
